If a lock sticks, spins, or broke, we repair it, or we put in a new one when it is worn out.
Should I repair the lock or replace it?
A lot of locks only need a cleaning, a new spring, or a strike plate that lines up with the bolt again. When the lock body is worn or cracked, a new lock is the better choice. We look at it with you and tell you what we would do on our own door.
Can you replace an old mortise lock?
Yes. A mortise lock sits in a pocket inside the edge of the door. We take out the old body and fit a new one in that pocket, with the key cylinder on the hallway side and a new faceplate on the edge. When the old pocket or the old holes do not match, we tell you what the door needs before we start.
When do people call us for this?
- The key turns hard or only works at a certain angle.
- The bolt does not reach the hole in the frame.
- The cylinder spins and nothing happens.
- The handle came loose or fell off.
- You want a better lock than the one you have.
How do I get started?
Call us, or text a photo of the lock from the hallway side and one of the door edge. That tells us most of what we need. You get a written quote before any work starts.
How does the visit go?
We come out with the parts your call and your photo point to. Before we touch anything, we show you what is worn or broken and what we plan to do. When the work is done, we test every lock and key with you before we leave.
Questions we get
Can I keep my current keys?
If we repair the lock, your keys keep working. If we replace it, you get new keys with the new lock.
What brands do you install?
We work with brands like Schlage, Yale, Sargent, and Arrow, and we fit the lock to your door and your building.
